Employability skills, also known as soft skills, are related to your teamwork, personal and interaction capabilities rather than to the technical side of a job. Many times, such skills make the difference between winners and losers. Employers would rather hire someone who shows willingness to learn new things, good team spirit and communication skills, than a specialist with many years of experience, but who can’t stand working in a team or isn’t able to explain others his part of their common projects.

When you apply for jobs, people who receive your application don’t know you personally. You need to tell them how good you are, with real life examples and situations. You need to include all employability skills that are very important in the job you’re applying for. It comes without saying you have to actually possess all those skills. Don’t lie, as you’ll get caught within the first ten minutes of your interview. Honesty is very important regardless the specific of your desired job.

After you’ve decided which skills you have and which ones are required by the job, you have to sell them in your resume. After that, continue with the ones which might help and which you are very good at. If you have a very strong skill which has nothing to do with your desired job, consider leaving it out. You can refer to it later on, during the interview. The purpose of your resume is to get you that interview. When this goal is accomplished, you need to set a new set of goals for your interview.
